Kare 11 News – If you suspect child abuse

MINNEAPOLIS — The unfolding child sexual abuse scandal at Penn State University has amplified a question many people have faced at one point or another in their lives: “Something doesn’t seem right, but should I report it?”

The answer is both legal and moral. In Minnesota, state law requires people in certain professions, including clergy, teachers and doctors, to report suspected child abuse.

For those not covered by statutes, the obligation is moral, says Deborah Huskins, an area director for Hennepin County Human services.
