Preventing Sexual Abuse and Restoring Lives

Preventing Child Sexual Abuse

As a member of the international Stop It Now! network, our Stop It Now! Minnesota program offers child sexual abuse prevention workshops and information, including what you can do to help keep your family safe.

The Stop It Now! network operates a Helpline and Online Help Center for questions and concerns about child sexual abuse:

The Stop It Now! Helpline (1.888.PREVENT)

The Helpline phone service has been limited due to financial constraints.  Please call for available hours. The new Online Help Center provides much of guidance and resources learned over the years about keeping children safe from sexual abuse.

In Minnesota, Project Pathfinder provides workshops for organizations that serve youth, including schools, PTA’s, religious groups, and nonprofit organizations.   Topics include:
  • What to Watch Out for When Adults or Youth are with Children
  • Behavioral and Physical Warning Signs that a Child May Have Been Abused
  • Developing a Family Safety Plan
The program also includes advice for what to do if you are concerned about the sexual behavior of a loved one, or another person’s behavior toward a child.

Treatment for Adults
If you seek help for an adult you care about, we provide a structured outpatient sexual-behavior treatment program.  Additional services include individual and family therapy for a variety of mental health issues (such as depression).

“My brother in law Harry was touching his eleven year old daughter. She was clearly uncomfortable with his attention. ‘Don’t worry about it,’ I told her. ‘Your dad doesn’t mean anything by it.’ I wish I had told Harry, in front of my niece, ‘I see Janice is uncomfortable. You should stop touching her like that.’ This would let my niece know that someone is watching and noticing and not afraid to speak up.”
